Warsaw Wandering and Other Bad Alliterations
Our next stop in this world tour takes us a lot closer to home. Rather than spending an entire day on a plane, we took a mere one hour flight to the capital of Poland - Warsaw. Despite it's obvious closeness to Germany I had never been, but heard great things. We were lucky with the early summer weather and went exploring immediately upon our arrival.
We made our way to the Old Town without any plan or concrete destination in mind. And we certainly could not have chosen a better place to start.
We started at the Royal Castle and Sigismund’s Column. While we did not have time to go inside, the castle is definitely first on my list when I make it back with more time at hand.
From the Royal Castle we made our way to the Old Town Market Square.
We chose to have dinner at one of the restaurants in the square that offered traditional Polish cuisine. It was so wonderful that we came back the next night with the rest of our merry band of travellers.
After dinner we decided to make the most of the beautiful evening and walked back to the hotel. We made our way back past the Royal Castle and all the way to the Palace of Culture and Science.
Unfortunately, we did have no more time for exploring and the next evening only gave us enough time for dinner. The downside of business trips, as much as they may be a fantastic vessel to see the world, is that they can be quite unpredictable in how much time you have to explore. You have to grab every opportunity for wandering about as you can never be certain if there will be another. And truth to be told, sometimes there is no time at all.
Counting our blessings that this was not one of these occasions, we certainly did enjoy what little time they had. As first impressions go, Warsaw has made one of the very best. And I even made a new friend.
