Ladies who lunch

It looks like the good weather is here to stay at least for now. So all of Berlin finally came out of hibernation and is now crawling the streets in an effort to soak up as much sun as possible. On Friday a few girlfriends and I decided to get together and celebrate having ditched the shackles of university life. For now at least. We have been on a quest to find Berlin's best Sushi place for a while now. Of course everyone has their own opinion (and I am happy to tag along and give each and every one of them a try). Last month we went to try out K's place (which had amazing platters to share and free champagne but that's neither here nor there...). So this time got to take us to her personal Sushi heaven.

We met up at Sasaya in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg. I know it is not exactly a secret spot anymore. But I've never been before. It's an unassuming place that doesn't have bright and flashy displays hinting at their location. In fact, K and me initially walked right past it. It's also one of those places where you take of your shoes and sit on the floor.

The menu offers a wide selection of both standards and some more out there creations. We got the fish maki platter because you can never go wrong with that. K also ordered the I love salmon platter, A got the Eskimo and Spicy Tuna rolls, F had the Ebiten roll and I decided on the Eskimo roll as well.

You can watch the chef as he prepares your order and boy is he fast. Unfortunately, he decided to hide behind that lady the moment I took a picture.

Soon our table was bursting with delicious goodness and we dug right in. In fact I was so eager that I had to steal a bite or two before taking pictures.

It didn't take us too long to completely polish of every last crumb. The people on the table next to ours must have thought we had no food in days.

All in all, we had a great time chatting away the early afternoon. We reminisced about the past few years and speculated on our future. It was fun getting together again before everyone is leaving Berlin and spreading out all over the world. Thankfully, A and K will join me in the UK, although they will be in different cities. with achingly full bellies we compared the two Sushi places we had already seen but had to call it a tie. They each had their USPs as we marketing folks say (unique selling points for the normal people) and the food was fresh and delicious both times. F invited us to try her favourite spot next so the saga continues...
