Shout it from the rooftop

I might have mentioned once (or twice) that I recently finished my undergraduate studies. In Germany the whole process of writing, handing in and defending your thesis is a bit of a mess. There is no definite deadline for any of those things so after four years together our course was fizzling out without anyone really noticing. But of course we couldn't go out without at least a minor bang and so we met up in a place suitable for how we feel right now: on top of the world (or the Berlin skyline but who really cares). Freiluftrebellen is a bar on the fifth floor of a shopping centre close to Schönhauser Allee. It has a beach theme with white leather couches, palm trees and sand everywhere. If you don't get to go south for the summer (and with this weather why would you need to) this place offers the chance to escape the hustling and bustling of the city for a moment.

As you can see the place was pretty packed (no surprise, really). That meant we had to walk around for a few minutes lurking for the perfect opportunity. We finally snatched a spot with a view towards Alexander Platz which was beautiful.

Waiting for our fellow students to arrive we settled in and got our first round of drinks. The time seemed to fly by chatting and soaking up the sun.

They have a barbecue right next to the entrance, so K (being the only one who hadn't had dinner) decided to get a salmon Flammkuchen (the French idea of pizza with sour cream, chopped onions, and bacon or in this case salmon). While waiting we were entertained by this little lass. She later took a tour of the whole place cheering and dancing with strangers.

Upon returning with the Flammkuchen everyone grabbed a piece despite earlier claims of not being hungry at all. So all I got was a picture of the two pieces that weren't immediately inhaled. I guess that means they were half-way decent.

As more and more of us arrived we sat back and watched the actual highlight of the evening: the sunset. Life really couldn't get much better.

We remained until long after sundown relishing the time spent together. Many more drinks were bought and laughs were shared. Eventually though we ladies in our sundresses had to cave to the cold wind. So we made our way back down to the ground and hopped on the train to make our journey home.
